The Goan rued injuries to his strikers in the 1-0 loss to Salgaocar on Saturday, but stated that they shall improve against Bagan...

Defending champions Churchill Brothers SC suffered an early blow in their first match of the I-League 2013-14 season, losing by a solitary goal to Goan rivals Salgaocar FC.

Mariano Dias started with a host of new signings in the Churchill starting eleven on Saturday which included two of their foreign players, Hameed Adesope and Hugo Machado.

"This being the first match, especially with the defender Hameed [Adesope], Micky [Fernandes] and Arindam [Bhattacharya], we did not click in the beginning," he told reporters.

"Of course, Salgaocar played very well," he added. "I hope we (Churchill Brothers) will improve in the second match. [In the] first half we were all under pressure, but in the second half we came into the match and there were chances where we could have scored. However our forwards failed."

Dias explained that his team's inability to score was down to injury concerns to Portuguese attacking midfielder Hugo Machado and the absense of Gabon international Henri Antchouet.

"Hugo [Machado] was injured earlier, but he said he would play. So that (Machado's thigh injury) was another blow. [We had to make a] quick substitution within half an hour.

"The whole team did not click. Henri [Antchouet] is also injured. So he's also not in the line-up. Maybe he will be ready for the next match and our new Syrian signing (Ahmad Al Kaddour) will also start. We will put up a good show in the next match," he signed off.

Churchill Brothers will host Mohun Bagan on Saturday, September 28, at the Duler stadium in Goa.
