The state government threw its weight behind the Indian FA's decision to host the U-17 World Cup in 2017...

The Kerala government has backed the Indian bid for the U-17 World Cup by stating its readiness to be one of the venues for the tournament.

Chief Minister of Kerala, Mr. Oonmen Chandy stated, on Wednesday, that they will soon sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Sports Ministry in that regard after an exclusive cabinet meet on the issue.

The government had clearly supported the project from the on-set and even extended their help. It is believed that the Kerala government had received a formal request from the Kerala Football Authority (KFA) on the issue in February 2012, which ensured that the official document pertaining to the issue at hand was ratified by the Cabinet. This development took place on Wednesday. The documents will now be handed over to the All India Football Federation (AIFF).

The Indian FA has enlisted the possible venues as Delhi, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Karnataka and a run-off between Kerala, Assam and Goa as the final choice.

The Central Government of India too had earlier backed the bid to host FIFA’s prestigious event.
