The match between Malaysia and Barcelona will take place at the Bukit Jalil Stadium as planned despite the field being in poor condition

The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) have confirmed that the much-anticipated match between Malaysia and Barcelona will still take place at the Bukit Jalil Stadium despite the pitch not being up to par with international specifications.

The New Straits Times reported that the Malaysia Stadium Corporation (MSC) would be able to re-turf the ground two days before the Spanish giants arrive in Malaysia.

Organisers of the event, BSC Soccer Malaysia Sdn Bhd, have also refuted any possibilities of the game being shifted to the Shah Alam Stadium through its Managing Director Effendi Jagan Abdullah.

He said: “FAM have assured me that the stadium will be ready for the match and we are not moving it to the Shah Alam Stadium.”

Effendi has also confirmed that Barcelona will not be cancelling their first-ever trip to Malaysia even though they have appointed a new manager in Gerardo Martino.

New signing Neymar will be in Kuala Lumpur along with Lionel Messi, Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta.

“Barring injuries, Barcelona have promised to bring all their top-rated stars to Kuala Lumpur.

“It will be one of their final pre-season matches before they start their Primera Liga campaign,” Effendi added.

Barca will first take on the Thai national team on August 7 in Bangkok before going head-to-head with the Malaysian outfit on the 10th.

More than 20,000 of the 87,000 tickets for the big game have already been sold.

Tickets are ranging from RM98 to RM688 and can be purchased via www.ilassotickets.com.
