The young Garuda will utilise an entirely different set of players from the squad that played the last friendly against the young Cubs
Indonesia U23 coach Rahmad Darmawan is looking forward to the friendly match against their Singapore counterparts this Saturday, July 13 as he is keen to gauge the strength his Southeast Asian opponents.
The two sides met a month ago in Solo and played out a 1-1 draw, with Singapore custodian Khairulhin Khalid arguably the man of the match after pulling out the saves from all angles.
"Singapore is one of our competitors in the upcoming SEA Games and it will be good for us to learn their game plan," Rahmad explained.
“I think they still use some players who played in the last SEA Games.
"Moreover, we will use the match against Singapore as part of our selection process, which is still ongoing until now.
“There are players which have been called up by us but they are in action with their clubs and we have to find replacements.”
The Indonesian National Team Body (BTN) has announced a 22-player squad for the friendly and they are expected to report for duty on July 10 for a training camp.
It is an entirely new list of players from the previous friendly as Rahmad had previously indicated that he will be calling up about 60 players in different stages before selecting his final squad for the SEA Games.
BTN also hopes that Rahmad’s boys will be able to return to Indonesia a day after the match to watch the friendly between an Indonesia XI and Premier League side Arsenal at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta.
