Terry Antonis will not travel to the 2013 Fifa Under-20 World Cup with the Young Socceroos after tearing his quadriceps muscle in Sunday's friendly with New Zealand.
Midfielder Antonis went down in the first half of the 5-0 win over the Junior All Whites in Wollongong and has been replaced in the squad by former Sydney FC team-mate Hagi Gligor.
Antonis, who has finally sealed his move to Serie A club Parma, will be sidelined for up to six weeks.
"Unfortunately this injury has ruled Terry out of the squad, which is very disappointing for him and the team as he is a very important player and this would have been his second Fifa U-20 World Cup," Young Socceroos coach Paul Okon said via statement.
"... I'm confident that Hagi Gligor can step straight into the squad and help us with our campaign."
The Young Socceroos depart for Turkey on Tuesday in Antalya to go into camp ahead of the tournament, which starts for Okon's side against Colombia on June 22.
They take on Chile's Under-20 national team on June 16 in their final pre-tournament hit-out.
