The newly-appointed Muangthong United coach has claimed the club's president Rawi Lorthong and director Ronnarit Suewajar are the ones whom he can count on for support
Thai Premier League (TPL) club SCG Muangthong United have wasted no time in securing the services of former Thailand national team coach Winfried Schafer, after he was acrimoniously removed by Thailand FA president Worawi Makudi earlier in the week.
Speaking to the media at a press conference held by the club, the German native said that he did not hesitate to take up the offer as the club had been supportive of him when he was the War Elephants' head coach.
"Before I came to Thailand, my friend told me that I can trust two people no matter what happen here," he said.
“They are Rawi Lorthong [Muangthong president] and Ronnarit Suewajar [director] and the first thing I need to do for this team is make the players have confident and fit for future matches and get back to the top of the league again."
Despite all the negativity surrounding Schafer, especially from Worawi, he is definitely not short of friends in Thailand as Army United player Bjorn Lindemann has also come out in support of the coach.
"He [Schafer] is a great coach and I think it's a good thing for Muangthong [to get him as a coach]," he said.
“He will do better if he works without any problems outside of the field.”
