East Bengal head coach, Trevor Morgan, was disappointed to drop points against Selangor and will go all out for a win next week versus Sai Gon despite already qualifying
East Bengal travelled to Shah Alam to challenge a Selangor side that appeared to have given up on their AFC Cup campaign.
However, a late resurgence after a red card was shown to the visitors’ Manandeep Singh, the Red Giants’ double delight from Shukor Jusoh and Adib Aizuddin cancelled out strikes from Penn Orji and Lalrindika Ralte.
The East Bengal coach, Trevor Morgan, was clearly disappointed to give away a two-goal lead that they worked hard to attain.
“Our objective in this game against Selangor was to win and we didn’t do that,” Morgan said in the post-match press conference.
The Englishman also told reporters that his side wanted to progress to the next round.
And despite booking a place in the next round of the AFC Cup with the draw, Morgan added: “We have to be better than that if we want to progress further in the competition and make sure that we don’t get beaten in the last group match next week.”
Regarding the red card shown to Manandeep, the East Bengal coach had no qualms about it and felt that the referee made the right call.
The Indian Premier League side will take on Vietnam’s Sai Gon Xuan Thanh at home in their next AFC Cup Group H match.
