Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI), through the National Team Body (BTN) announced that former China Under-20 coach Luis Manuel Blanco has signed a two year contract worth 5 billion rupiah (SGD 673,300) to be the new Indonesia national team head coach.
The appointment was made known to the media by BTN’s chief representative Habil Marati, who is also a former national team manager.
Habil also revealed that Blanco’s contract also include the appointment of Jorge Di Gregoria as his assistant and Marcos Conenna as the team physio.
“The contract is for two years and one year it is about Rp 2.5 billion,” said the BTN chief representative Habil.
“Blanco will have the option to extend his contract at the end of the current agreement. He will also bring his assistant along as they have been working together for years.”
According to Habil, Blanco will begin his duty as the national team coach on February 25 and BTN will be calling up 34 players for the training session.
“Blanco has done his schedule and the players will be having their medical screening for three days and will stay at Jusseny Boutique hotel before moving over to Century hotel,” added Habil
Blanco’s appointment by BTN added more mystery surrounding Indonesia’s football as a week ago, PSSI executive committee member had announced that they do not recognize BTN.
In that same announcement, Indonesia national team coordinator Bob Hippy was adamant that Nil Maizar will lead the team for their Group C Asian Cup qualifiers against Saudi Arabia on March 22.
But despite the executive committee turning a blind eye to BTN’s formation, its chief Djohar Arifin Husein has been in tandem with the new body, aimed at resolving the dualism saga between PSSI and the breakaway Save Indonesia Football Committee (KPSI).
