The Minister for Youth and Sports was appalled by Indonesia FA's handling of the new head coach appointment, leaving former coach Nil Maizar in the dark
Indonesia Minister for Youth and Sports Roy Suryo regrets the sudden decision made by Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) to appoint Luis Manuel Blanco as the new national team head coach.
The news came not only as a shock to many but also to those in PSSI executive committee too.
But the most shocking news was that the decision was made without the knowledge of former coach Nil Maizar and according to Roy, there has to be a proper channel of communication in future.
“Nil knew about the appointment of the new coach through the media, there has to be a mechanism in future before an important decision like this is made," said the infuriated Minister.
“The decision made was quite unfortunate and they should be more careful in making future decision."
Nil was appointed as head coach of the national team a year ago and led the team in the 2012 AFF Championship, in which the Garuda went home early after failing to progress from the group stage.
The former Semen Padang coach was also at the helm during Indonesia’s recent outing to Dubai to take on Iraq in the Asian Cup qualifiers.
Despite coming home empty ended, the visor put up a spirited display and lost by a solitary goal, scored by Younis Mahmoud in the 66th minute of the game.
Indonesia will next host Saudi Arabia at the Gelora Bung Karno stadium on March 23.
