"I am looking forward to the new challenge," Juanfri said of his move to the Goan I-League side. Juanfri plied his trade in the reserve team at Spanish side Malaga. He made 96 appearances for the Malaga B team and scored 40 goals. He did not see any first team action and hence moved to Ecija Balompie in 2012.
The 23-year old becomes the second Spaniard to sign for the Goans after Angel Berlanga arrived at the club and even managed to score on his debut against Salgaocar FC.
"It was a dream to score on my debut in front of our supporters. I am hungry to help my new team-mates win and the club to climb the ladder," Angel said after his debut. Berlanga arrived in India after a stint with New Zealand champions Auckland City who had represented the Oceania region in the last two editions of the FIFA Club World Cup. However they were unable to progress past the opening rounds as they suffered defeats at the hands of Japanese sides Kashiwar Reysol and Sanfrecce Hiroshima respectively.
"Although we did not do so well, it was a fantastic experience and was also nice to sample a new culture," said Angel.
Sporting coach Oscar Barreras was ecstatic over the side's new acquisitions.
"Capturing the signatures of Angel and Juanfri is great news for the club. They will add a sprinkle of Spanish flavour to a team which is bursting with local Goan talent, who make up the core of the team," remarked Barreras.
