The France international defender saw last season's exit at the hands of Bayern Munich act as a "trigger" for a 10-match unbeaten run and wants to excel in Europe next term

Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny believes that the Champions League is "the most important thing" for his side.

The centre-back scored the crucial goal on the last day of the season to fire the Gunners into fourth and, therefore, the competition's third qualifying round in 2013-14.

The north Londoners exited last season's tournament at the hands of eventual winners Bayern Munich, their performance to win the second leg but lose the tie proving a rallying point that prompted a 10-game unbeaten streak as they secured fourth spot.

"The second leg of the Champions League against Bayern Munich was a trigger for us. In the process we won everything," Koscielny told La Montagne.

"The most important thing for Arsenal is to play in the Champions League. It is super exciting to play against the best teams in Europe."

As reported by Goal, Bayern and Barcelona have both made enquiries for the Frenchman but Koscielny insists he wishes to remain at Arsenal, whmo he joined in 2010 from Lorient.

"I have a four-year contact," added the 27-year-old. "For now, I am still at Arsenal."
