Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane has been forced to withdraw from the France squad due to injury but is expected to be fit in time to face Manchester United.

The 19-year-old, who had earned his first senior call-up for the upcoming friendly meeting with Germany, suffered a hamstring injury during Los Blancos' 1-0 defeat to Granada on Saturday.

The centre-back has withdrawn from Didier Deschamps' squad as a precaution but, barring any setbacks, should face the Red Devils in the Champions League last 16.

The first leg of the tie takes place at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday February 13, with the return at Old Trafford scheduled for Tuesday March 5.

Newcastle defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa has been added to the French squad as a replacement.
