La Paillade head coach has warned Arsene Wenger the Gunners will have to be at the top of their game against the French Champions when the pair meet for the first time next TuesdayMontpellier manager Rene Girard has warned Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger that his side will need to be firing on all cylinders to pick up three points at the Stade de la Mosson when they pair meet in the Champions League next week.
The 58-year-old made the comments ahead of Friday night’s Ligue 1 clash with Reims at the Stade Auguste Delaune.
The French champions have begun the campaign in less than convincing style, although they did beat Sochaux 3-1 before the international break and Girard has told Wenger he will have to be at his best when the pair spoke at a Champions League managers meeting earlier this week.
Girard said: "It was good to see him; we've known each other for a long time. He was in fine form, so I hope his team isn't doing as well as he is!
"There's a lot of respect there. We spoke a lot about the upcoming match. He knows that we’re a good side and that his lads will have to be on the money to come out of it with the three points."
It is the first time Montpellier have reached Europe's most prestigious tournament and it will also see the return of Olivier Giroud who left the Ligue 1 side for the Gunners in the summer.
