Italian great Fabio Cannavaro was in Malaysia for Tiger Street Football and feels that such games are a good way for players to improve

Last weekend, Tiger Street Football Malaysia took it to the streets of 1 Utama in Kuala Lumpur to bring fans of the sport non-stop, heart-stopping action.

Players from all over the world battled it out in the one-of-a-kind cage but it was two Malaysian teams, Fisherman’s Friend and Bobai FC that took all honours.

Ambassador for Tiger Street Football, Fabio Cannavaro, was cage-side witnessing all the action and he was more than impressed with what he saw.

He told Goal: “I’ve met lots of friendly people and I can also see lots of potential from this tournament.”

The ex-Italian international thought that the tournament was so good that he would want them to expand to Europe.

Cannavaro also highlighted his days on the street when he was growing up in Italy.

“In Europe it’s totally different.

“When I was younger, I started to play in the street.

“It was difficult but I think it’s good for players to improve because in the street you need to have more flair, more passing and you have to be smart.

“Hopefully in the near future, Tiger Street Football will go to Europe.”

Malaysia was the third installment of Tiger Street Football, having previously featured in Cambodia and Australia.

The 39-year-old replaced Edgar Davids, last year’s ambassador, and will be part of four more legs of the tournament set for Mongolia, Singapore, China and Vietnam.
