The young Colombian attacking midfielder has lit up the tournament and led his country in the absence of star man Falcao, turning them into genuine contenders for the World CupJames Rodriguez. The first name is pronounced "Ha-mez". It is a rather unique way of saying it and it is fitting, because the boy is a unique talent himself.
Not many would have seen the 22-year-old play before this World Cup, because he has spent the past season in Ligue 1 with AS Monaco and the preceding three before that at Porto. But most supporters would still have heard of Rodriguez's name, such is his burgeoning talent (and also particularly, if Football Manager addicts).
Now, the incredible talent that is Rodriguez has exploded on to world football's biggest stage, becoming Colombia's Player of Passion as he led them to three wins out of three in Group C.
In the absence of star man Radamel Falcao, Rodriguez displayed his Inner Steel by scoring once in each game, while also helping himself to two assists. He was also involved in two more of Colombia's goals, which means he has played a part in seven of their nine strikes in total.
Colombia have lived up to their tag as dark horses so far and Rodriguez is leading the way. No one will be surprised if this great talent goes on to achieve far more and he is deservedly the Gillette Player of Steel for Group C.
