He has occasionally been criticised for being disinterested at times, but Edin Dzeko's brace over the weekend against Everton propelled Manchester City to the top of the Premier League table, ahead of Liverpool on goal difference.
Everton, who has been sort of like a bogey team for City in recent years, especially at Goodison Park, took the lead with a fine finish from Ross Barkley. But Sergio Aguero drew the sides level minutes later before going off injured. Dzeko, as he has done so often this season, stepped up to the plate and scored a goal on either side of half time to put his side in a commanding lead.
His first, just two minutes before the break, was a superbly placed header beyond the reach of Tim Howard. His second came only minutes after the restart as he instinctively tapped in from Samir Nasri's low cross.
Despite Romelu Lukaku reducing the arrears midway through the second period, Dzeko's second goal proved to be the match winning one as City leapfrogged Chelsea and Liverpool into first place with only two games left to go.
The Bosnian's man-of-the-match contribution cannot be understated as Ctiy look to have passed their seemingly toughest test on route to the title, which is firmly in their hands now.
Dzeko's contribution in the match, as he has done so often this season, has more than justified his continued inclusion in the side over Alvaro Negredo (and Aguero when he is fit), and should City go on to win the title, his double at Goodison can be seen as an important element in City's fight to the summit.
For that reason, Dzeko is our undisputed winner in this week's Goal Singapore EPL Player of the Week.
