"They are just enjoying being part of the LionsXII, that’s the way I see it because they have got no guts today! They are just going through the motion, which is very bad for me I think!"
Those were the words of a frustrated and disappointed Fandi Ahmad after watching his team slump to a disappointing 1-0 defeat at home to Sime Darby on Saturday night.
It was a scathing but honest assessment, especially considering some of the poor displays that have come at home at the Jalan Besar Stadium in the Malaysia Super League this season, where the LionsXII have won only twice in six games. Consider that in comparison to last year, when they won 10 and drew the remaining one of their 11 matches.
It is a new and younger side, but Fandi believes his charges are not putting in enough effort regardless, and the majority of Goal Singapore readers agree with him: 51.1% have indicated that Fandi is right to blast his team as they feel the players have not been up to mark, although a further 18.1% feel he should not be so public with his criticism.
However, 24.5% chose to disagree, saying that Fandi needs to share the blame as well for he is the coach, while the remaining 6.4% minority think the players are not at fault.
The LionsXII will have a chance to redeem themselves at home very soon, with the next game on Tuesday, but they will face a tough task against league leaders Pahang FA.
