The Spaniard put in a man-of-the-match performance for Manchester United against Newcastle, scoring a brace and providing an assist in a 4-0 win
It took him nine matches to open his goalscoring account for Manchester United, but Juan Mata now has three goals for his new club in a span of eight days.
After scoring his first goal against Aston Villa last week in a 4-1 victory, the Spain international doubled his tally with a brace against Newcastle over the weekend in a 4-0 win, earning him Goal Singapore's Player of the Week award.
The first was a trademark exquisite free-kick late in the first half, which curled beyond the reach of goalkeeper Rob Elliot. Mata then scored his second of the evening a few minutes after the interval, latching on to Javier Hernandez's pass before feinting past a defender and Elliot and tapping the ball into the net.
The 25-year-old rounded off the evening with a cheeky back-heel into the path of Adnan Januzaj, who drilled the ball home to round off a comprehensive victory.
His growing contribution to the team led manager David Moyes to praise his record signing for finally coming up with the goods now.
"I think Juan Mata's played really well and I think he's made us better," Moyes told reporters after the match
"He hasn't had the goals in the early games but I think he played fine. Recently he's started getting the goals and more importantly, the assists as well.
"I think, over the last two seasons in the Premier League, Juan Mata was one of the best assist-makers.
"He's always got himself a good tally of goals and we needed that. He's coming up with the goods now."
