thumbnail Hello,

The Malaysia Super League finally returns after a three-week hiatus. Can the LionsXII beat last season's FA Cup champions? Let's see what our boys have to say about the showdown

Ahh finally, the MSL is back. That last-gasp 2-1 win against ATM FA seemed almost a lifetime ago now. And that might be a problem for the team too as the boys would have to try and get back to the rigours of the league after such a long layoff. I guess you could say the same about Kelantan, who have started the season fairly well as they currently sit in second place. It's going to be a pretty tough match for the LionsXII, and if they want to get a result, they'll have to work hard for it as the Red Warriors won't make things easy for them. In fact, at times this season, I feel the LionsXII make things difficult for themselves, needing to concede a goal before they finally start playing their football. But I'm confident they'll step up to the mark this weekend and get at least a point, if not all three.
Prediction: 2-1. Kelantan won't be any pushovers, but if the LionsXII can play to the best of their ability, there's no reason why they can't get all three points.

The LionsXII are back at last after a three-week break, with some of them fresh from a trip to Muscat. Unfortunately, no one really stood out in a 3-1 defeat and Fandi Ahmad will hope his boys can put in a more inspired showing when mighty Kelantan come rolling about at Jalan Besar Stadium. With the like of Mohammad Ghaddar, Mohamed Shawky, Badhri Radzi and Francis Forkey Doe, this will be a real toughie for the men in red. They sit in second place and Steve Darby will come looking for a win. While they might not get it, I have the feeling the LionsXII won't take all three either.
Prediction: 1-1. A draw will be a good result against strong opponents.

Both sides will have players who are coming in fresh from international duty. For the LionsXII, not having played in almost a month means rustiness should show up. The momentum of the victory from their last match would be long gone, and it's fresh restart. Kelantan are no pushovers and they'll show up in force to try to claim a win, since Pahang have proven it can be done. The Lions need to prevent conceding early and push for a goal from the start. An effective defensive showing in midfield has to be the key, for not just stopping Kelantan's impressive attacking line, but also for the LionsXII to build their own attacks upon. Steve Darby is not a man unfamiliar with the LionsXII having commentated their matches extensively. Whatever surprises Fandi Ahmad has he'd see coming all the way from Kota Bharu.
Prediction: 1-1. A draw to resume the MSL campaign wouldn't be a bad result.
