thumbnail Hello,

Missed the thrills and spills in Singapore's only professional football league? Fret not, here's a quick recap of the action over the past week as the 2014 season got underway!

TAMPINES ROVERS 1-0 HOME UNITED
(Miljan Mrdakovic 47')

The defending champions got their title defence off to a perfect start as they edged last season's runners-up in a close contest in the Charity Shield. Marquee signing Mrdakovic took his goal well and the Stags held on, aided by an assured performance from goalkeeper Hyrulnizam Juma'at and a clear lack of cutting edge from the Protectors.

ALBIREX NIIGATA 0-1 BRUNEI DPMM
(Rodrigo Tosi 15')

Steve Kean's S.League debut ended in victory as the Wasps came away with a morale-boosting victory at Jurong East Stadium. Tosi's early spot-kick settled their nerves and they held on with a degree of comfort against the White Swans, with Kean declaring their ambition to challenge for the title after the game.

HOUGANG UNITED 2-2 WOODLANDS WELLINGTON
(Igor Cerina 17', Fazli Jaffar 32' | Taufiq Ghani 24', Moon Soon Ho 69')

Both sides entertained spectators at the Hougang Stadium in a four-goal thriller. Croatian centre-back Cerina headed in Fazli's cross before Taufiq lashed the ball in for a debut goal, after Chang Jo-yoon's free-kick came back off the wall. Fazli capped a good game with a goal, stealing in at the far post to knock home Shunsuke Nakatake's cross, but Moon ensured the Rams shared the spoils with a well-taken finish.

WARRIORS FC 2-1 GEYLANG INTERNATIONAL
(Hafiz Rahim 23', Irwan Shah 62' | Hafiz Nor 90')

Alex Weaver got his first full season in charge at the uniformed giants underway with a slender victory. Hafiz broke the deadlock with a wicked, swerving free-kick from the left before debutant Irwan tapped home Nicolas Velez's cross. Namesake Hafiz thumped home a beauty, but it was too little too late for the Eagles.

COURTS YOUNG LIONS 0-4 BALESTIER KHALSA
(Goran Ljubojevic pen 6'., Kim Min Ho 13', Poh Yi Feng 32', Park Kang Jin 69')

It was a one-sided affair at the Jalan Besar Stadium as the Tigers easily swept aside the Young Lions to reinforce their pre-season title talk. Marquee signing Ljubojevic's powerful penalty got them on their way, with Kim converting a beautiful pass from Park to double the advantage. Poh hit a stunning half-volley to seal the game by the half hour and Park rounded off a splendid individual display with a curling free-kick.

HARIMAU MUDA B 1-2 TANJONG PAGAR
(Akhir Bahair 23' | Masrezwan Masturi 31', Azrul Nizam O.G 65')

The Jaguars went behind to their youthful opponents, but a stunning lob from Masrezwan levelled the scores before the striker's header from Kamel Ramdani's cross resulted in an own goal. Despite Ruzaini Zainal and then Nor Azli Yusoff being sent off subsequently, the nine-man visitors held on valiantly to earn the three points.
