Nigerians Abroad: Mikel scores again to lead Chelsea to victory

The Nigerian midfielder took over the captain’s arm band and then scored his side’s opener in an FA Cup victory over Derby County
Mikel Obi, in his 300th game for Chelsea on Sunday scored against Derby County in the third round of the FA Cup. Chelsea won 2-0 at Pride Park to book a fourth round meeting with Sunderland.

Mikel scored in the 66th minute with a header from a Willian cross to make it two goals for the season. Oscar added the second in the 71st to make it 2-0.

Sone Aluko was not listed in Hull city’s 2-0 victory away to Middlesbrough last Saturday after signing a two and a half year extension. Victor Anichebe was also not listed for West Brom’s 2-0 home loss to Crystal Palace. Anichebe has been out for about four weeks with illness.

Peter Odemwingie played 73 minutes in Ole Gunner Solskjaer’s first game in charge of Cardiff as they won 2-1 away at Newcastle last Saturday. Shola Ameobi came on for Papiss Cisse in the 85th minute as the Geordies tried to rescue an equalizer.

Victor Moses  played the first half of Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Oldham Athletic on Sunday. Philippe Coutinho replaced the Nigerian in the second half.


Vincent Enyeama was not listed for Lille as they posted a 3-1 away victory over Amiens in the Coupe de France. Salomon Kalou scored two goals for the third placed Ligue 1 team. They will resume their Ligue 1 chase next Sunday at home to Reims.

Ramon Azeez
was in the Almeria team that defeated Granada 3-0 on Saturday. It was the former youth international's 13th game of the Liga season. 

Nosa Igiebor was not listed for Real Betis in their game against Real Valladolid on Sunday. He's been missing in action since October.
