Defending champions, Malaysia will open their campaign in the SEA Games against Brunei. Goal look at the key battles in this opening clash.

FADHLI SHAS
VS ADI SAID

This will be a battle between two under-23 players who have already been given the full international caps by their respective countries. Adi Said plays for DPMM FC who plays in the S-League and will be under the tutelage of Steve Kean, beginning next season. As for Fadhli, this is his last assignment with the Young Tigers before heading to Johor Darul Takzim. Both are the leaders of their teams and will be expected to produce moment of brilliance to inspire their teams. Fadhli is a good reader of the game and he will have to be wary of Adi's tricks in order not to concede needless free-kicks.

NAZMI FAIZ
VS NAJIB TARIF

This is a crucial battle. Malaysia is expected to be on the attacking side more than the Brunei side, in which case the player whom Kim Swee looks to be his creative hub is Nazmi Faiz. The PKNS midfielder is a quick thinker on the ball and can switch his intentions very quickly. With Najib being the defensive midfielder, the screen in front of his defence, his sole task will be to ensure that Nazmi isn't allowed space and time to pick his passes.

IRFAN FAZAIL
VS AZWAN RAHMAN

Just like the above battle, the same applies in another battle where the shoe is on the other feet. For this one, Malaysia will be the defensive whereas Brunei is the attacking one. Azwan may have only play in 5 full internationalinternational matches but he have already notched 1 goal. His playmaking threat should not be taken lightly and in the absence of Junior Eldstal, Irfan will have to take charge of this particular duty.
