Qatar was second best throughout the match against the home side Malaysia, perhaps due to the fact that they only needed a draw, but at times they looked genuinely threatened by Malaysia's attacks instead of simply absorbing them.

But Qatar head coach Fahad Abdulla Al-Zarraa made an astute substitution at the start of the second half to bring in Al-Ali for Ali Afef, and it worked.

It proved to work 20 minutes later, when Qatar pounced on a defensive mistake by the Malaysia defence to score.

Afterwards it was just a matter of letting the home side panic and tire themselves until the final whistle.

The Al-Ali goal and 1-0 win means Qatar are now through to Australia the 2015 Asian Cup.
