One such player is Ravel Morrison who hit the headlines on Sunday, scoring a superb individual strike as West Ham thrashed Tottenham 3-0 at White Hart Lane, described as a "genius goal" by manager Sam Allardyce.
Elsewhere, Gerard Pique has won the Champions League twice and the Spanish league three times since leaving England and returning to Barcelona.
Midfielder Paul Pogba is another who has gone on to enjoy success, helping Juventus win Serie A last season, while Guiseppe Rossi, also in Italy with Fiorentina, is the second top scorer in the division after returning from injury.
