In the lead up to the 2013-14 season, join us as we count down the best 15 players in the A-League, as voted for by Goal and journalists and writers.

As a 17-year-old McGlinchey turned down the chance to sign a professional contract with Manchester United to stay at his childhood club Celtic.

Born in New Zealand, the 26-year-old represented Scotland at Under-20 level before switching allegiances back to the All Whites at senior level.

Working his way up through the youth ranks at Celtic, McGlinchey made only one appearance for the Scottish giants and following a brief loan spell at Dunfermline he signed for the Central Coast Mariners in 2009.

Since then McGlinchey has gone on to make 110 appearances for the Gosford side, with a brief loan spell back in Scotland at Motherwell in the 2009-10 season.

Vitally important to the Mariners in the final third, McGlinchey secured 11th spot on our list after showing off his skill and technical ability as the Mariners won their first championship last season.

Highlighting his importance to the title-holders, of his 110 appearances for the Mariners McGlinchey has only started on the bench three times over four seasons.

His versatility, skill and technique in midfield saved his coach Graham Arnold from quite a few headaches over the years.

As well as his pace and the ability to trick defenders out wide, McGlinchey can also drift inside and unleash a powerful shot despite his diminutive size.

Comfortable on either flank as well as playing through the middle, McGlinchey's creativity in attack is Arnold's ace in the hole.

His ability to play the right ball as well as being able to glide past a challenge mean that he is very difficult to keep quiet, as he proved last season.

Defining Moment

A second-half hat-trick that arrived in the space of 34 minutes when the Mariners destroyed Melbourne Victory 6-2 last season was easily the stand-out moment of McGlinchey's best season in Australia to date.
