Top and Flop: United SC 2-0 Rangdajied United

Join Goal in saluting another player worthy of recognition as United SC started their campaign on a positive note...
Welcome to Goal's new I-League feature: Top and Flop. For every game, a candidate will be put forward, as chosen by Goal, who deserves recognition for achieving something special. It won't necessarily be the best player in the league - but whoever we nominate will have done something amazing. In the same vein, we will also name a player whose performance wasn’t up to the mark on the given day and eventually came to hurt his side.

Though Lalkamal Bhowmick bagged the Man of the Match prize, the Liberian striker was probably the most deserving candidate to win it. He played neat one-twos with his team-mates to build up patient moves. He dropped down effectively, winning the ball on a number of occasions. He was also the game-changer, after he was deployed behind Ranti Martins by coach Eelco Schattorie in the second half which made their attack more fluid. The first goal was scored when Ranti headed home an Eric free-kick and later the United SC debutant created space for himself in the Rangdajied box and pulled off one of the best strikes of the weekend to double the lead.

The visiting defender looked sluggish at regular intervals, conceding a number of corners. He also left Ranti unmarked when the Nigerian pulled off a clinical header to give United SC the lead. Often caught out of his position, the ex-Air India man has to improve his positional sense to cope up with top strikers in the league.
