South Africa Player of the Week: Bernard Parker - Bafana Bafana

The striker scored twice against Botswana during the side's 4-1 win in Durban, netting a clinical free-kick in the process

TEAM South Africa
South Africa 4-1 Botswana

Bernard Parker is on the road to redemption following his much-maligned own goal against Ethiopia. The striker was one of the main instigators behind Bafana Bafana's 4-1 win over Botswana on Saturday, scoring an impeccable free-kick and a penalty-kick. Feeding off a strong midfield performance from South Africa, the striker was clinical and displayed his technique when netting his curling free-kick. Parker will need to do a whole lot more before South African fans forget about his blunder in Addis Ababa, but the Kaizer Chiefs striker is certainly trying to atone for his mistake.

Congratulations to Bernard Parker's 44th South Africa Player of the Week winner!

Honourable Mention

Dean Furman- Bafana Bafana

Furman laid down his marker in the midfield once again for South Africa, using his passing and hard-working attitude to dominate the middle of the park and finishing off a fine performance with a goal. Named man-of-the-match after the game, Furman's position in the national side cannot be questioned.

Kermit Erasmus- Bafana Bafana

After a hiatus from the national team, Erasmus scored a goal with a well-timed header and looked potent in attack against Botswana. Erasmus has unquestionable talent and will want to be a part of Gordon Igesund's plans in the time to come.
Bongani Khumalo- Bafana Bafana

Khumalo impressed on his return to the national side, displaying the form which earned him a recall from Gordon Igesund. As he continues to play consistently for Doncaster Rovers, the defender will hope to be a permanent fixture in Bafana's lineup.

Each week our team of writers will put forward a selected candidate, as chosen by South Africa, who deserves recognition for achieving something special that matchday.

You can also help us choose a worthy recipient of the weekly accolade by leaving your nominations and comments. Your suggestions will be taken into consideration.

It won't necessarily be the best player in the country - at least not usually - but whoever we crown will have accomplished something amazing. It might be for a particularly awesome performance or for something praiseworthy off the pitch - either way, the person in question deserves special attention...
