The Soweto Derby is the perfect platform for South Africa's elite footballers to display their talents and Daine Klate stepped up to the plate during Pirates 1-0 MTN 8 semi-final win on Saturday. With the scores locked at 0-0, Pirates were awarded a free-kick in a promising area. Klate emerged as the favourite to have a shot at goal. And this he did, unleashing a powerful left-footed strike which curled around AmaKhosi' wall and past a sprawling Itumeleng Khune. Clinical and unstoppable, Klate's strike could prove to be decisive in determing who will make it into the final of the MTN 8 in October.

Congratulations to Daine Klate, Goal.com's 42nd South Africa Player of the Week winner!

Honourable Mention

Lehlohonolo Masalesa - Orlando Pirates

Masalesa, brought in to replace the injured Jali, performed admirably in the midfield for Orlando Pirates during the Soweto Derby. The player was vital in helping Pirates control the middle of the park and earned the man of the match award following his tireless efforts.

Moeneeb Josephs- Bidvest Wits

Despite letting in four goals against a rampant Platinum Stars, Josephs pulled off some remarkable saves during the second MTN 8 semi-final on Sunday. His heroics have kept Wits in with a shout of recovering in the tie, which Dikwena lead 4-2.
Siphelele Mthembu – Platinum Stars

Mthembu was in formidable form for Dikwena during their MTN 8 semi-final against Bidvest Wits. The striker was merciless in front of goal, bagging a brace in the process, and helping Platinum Stars to a notch up a convincing 4-2 win at home.

Each week our team of writers will put forward a selected candidate, as chosen by Goal.com South Africa, who deserves recognition for achieving something special that matchday.

You can also help us choose a worthy recipient of the weekly accolade by leaving your nominations and comments. Your suggestions will be taken into consideration.

It won't necessarily be the best player in the country - at least not usually - but whoever we crown will have accomplished something amazing. It might be for a particularly awesome performance or for something praiseworthy off the pitch - either way, the person in question deserves special attention...
