thumbnail Hello,

Goal picks out the star performers in the Malaysian top flight after the final pulsating week of action

In the final week of the 2013 Malaysian Super League (MSL), new champions LionsXII were crowned after they thrashed Felda United 4-0, Selangor held Johor Darul Takzim to a 1-1 draw to take the second available 2014 AFC Cup spot; joining Kelantan and T-Team eked a 2-2 draw against Terengganu to survive in the MSL next season.

Here, Goal takes a look at the standout performers from the latest round of MSL action.

Selangor’s Sharbinee Allawee takes his first ever feature in the Team of the Week between the posts after a stellar performance against a goal-hungry Johor Darul Takzim who were hell-bent on qualifying for the 2014 AFC Cup after losing to Kelantan in the FA Cup final the week before. His quick reflexes kept out the Southern Tigers’ barrage and thus gifted the Red Giants another go in Asia’s second tier competition.

The up-and-coming Nik Shahrul, who was once again at his best against the LionsXII to keep a clean sheet, will lead the defence. Daudsu Jamaluddin and Ahmad Tharmini Saiban will join him in the three-man backline. The latter was key in keeping Selangor forwards at bay for most of the game.

In midfield, the outstanding Badri Radzi came on to help Kelantan secure a difficult three points against Perak. He was the star again on Saturday night, scoring one and creating another against the newly crowned MSL champions, LionsXII. Shahril Ishak takes the right flank after he scored the all-important opening goal in LionsXII's match against Felda that helped them to win the MSL title. On the opposite side will be R. Gopinathan, who in just the last two matches, was involved in five out of seven of Pahang goals scored. Supplementing the midfield will be Shakir Shaari after he displayed his abundance of stamina to not only play 270 minutes in just 7 days, but provided the defensive screen of which Kelantan can depend on.

Two imports will take up the frontlines. First, Francis Forkey Doe changed the game when he came on against T-Team in midweek, assisting Amri’s goal to make it 2-1 before a fine individual goal made the score 4-1; and let’s not forget the crucial equalising free-kick against Johor which secured AFC Cup football for Selangor. Partnering him will be Patrick Ronaldinho Wleh who put on a magnificent four goal effort, albeit it in a losing effort to Pahang.  It was typical Wleh, strength, raw pace and calmness in front of goal. Completing the attack is Ahmad Syamim. The young forward may never score a more important goal in his career than the one he netted against Terengganu to secure T-Team’s MSL place for next season; the super-sub needed only four minutes on the field before scoring the vital leveler.
