thumbnail Hello,

The Blaugrana have little doubt that the 44-year-old is the right man to get them back on track after an unsuccessful campaign under former boss Gerardo Martino

Barcelona sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta believes that Luis Enrique is the perfect coach for the Catalans after their disappointing 2013-14 campaign.

The Blaugrana announced on Monday that the former Celta Vigo boss would replace Gerardo Martino following the Argentine's exit after just one season in charge and the former goalkeeper is confident that they have made the right decision.

"Why Luis Enrique? He knows our way of playing, he knows our style. He is totally prepared to coach Barcelona," Zubizarreta told a press conference.

"Luis Enrique is one of those people who dare to take on difficult challenges. This is not a challenge for Luis Enrique but a challenge for Barcelona.

"He is someone who knows how we work, the youth teams, Barca B ... He probably knows all that better than me. We are in the best possible hands."

Luis Enrique, meanwhile, declared himself delighted to return to the club where he previously spent eight seasons during his active career and coached the club's B team.

"It’s a very special day. They told me at Barca B that it wasn’t a goodbye but a ‘see you later’ and they have kept their word," he enthused. "This club gave me a chance to coach when I had no experience.

"I never set myself the goal of coaching the first team because it’s one of those things that’s so wonderful that you don’t imagine it will happen - but here I am."

The freshly appointed Barcelona coach also had his say on Lionel Messi following the Argentine's difficult 2013-14 campaign and vowed to help the forward get back to his usual best next term.

"I am thrilled to count on the best player in the world. He has just signed a new contract and Leo is excited to be here," Luis Enrique remarked. "The performance of Messi this season hasn’t been as incredible as in previous seasons but he has still played at a very high level and scored plenty of goals.

"He's still the No.1. We want to help him reach his highest level - but not just Messi, all of the players."
