Malaga defender Weligton suffers fractured collarbone

Malaga captain Weligton looks certain to miss the start of the Liga season after fracturing his collarbone.

The Brazilian defender was injured in the 11th minute of the 3-2 pre-season defeat against Aston Villa on Saturday following a collision with Villa striker Christian Benteke.

He was helped off the field before being replaced by debutant Roberto Chen, with hospital tests subsequently showing a fracture.

The news is a huge blow for Malaga's new boss Bernd Schuster, who could now be forced to do without his captain for around two months.

Los Boquerones begin their Liga campaign with a trip to Valencia next Saturday.
