Miku, notching his 10th goal of the campaign, headed Getafe ahead as the Venezuelan met Jamie Gavilan’s whipped free-kick.

Sporting lacked any quality as they desperately searched for an equaliser and their fate was sealed early in the second half. Gavilan swung in another dangerous cross causing problems inside the area, with the ball eventually breaking to Diego Castro who volleyed home with aplomb.

With Villarreal losing Sporting’s survival hopes, despite being small, still exist whilst Getafe sit comfortably in 10th and are involved in the battle to finish in a European spot.

Rayo Vallecano 6-0 Osasuna

Jose Movilla opened the scoring after five minutes when he volleyed home, before Michu headed his first from close range doubling Rayo’s lead. The home side continued to dominate and extended their lead when Michu racked up his 15th La Liga goal finishing a wonderful move. Diego Costa, heavily involved in his side’s third, netted a fourth with a wonderful curled finish just before the break.

And despite Jose Luis Mendilibar utilising all of his substitutions at half time his side, for the fourth time this season, conceded five or more goals when Emiliano Armenteros rounded of a flowing Rayo attack in the 57th minute. Tito completed the route 11 minutes from time as Rayo strolled to victory amassing 40 points for the season.

And in equally flamboyant fashion Vela doubled Sociedad’s lead when he chipped Francisco Casilla from 12 yards out. But Espanyol were given a lifeline just before the break when Vadim Demidov put the ball past his own goalkeeper and the Catalans were level early in the second half.

Vladimir Weiss provided the telling touch tucking the ball into the corner, and neither side could find a winner in the closing stages. Villarreal’s challenge was all but ended when Angel Lopez was sent off after being shown two yellow cards. Marcos Ruben converted a late penalty for the Yellow Submarine in the dying embers of the game but it was nothing more than a consolation for the visitors, leaving them just four points above the drop zone.

Michael Pereira ‘s dipping volley clipped the top of the crossbar, the closest either side came to breaking the deadlock throughout.

Granada were unable to replicate their late winner against Racing Santander despite improving in the closing stages with Dudu Aouate never really troubled. The point apiece sees Mallorca move nine points clear of relegation, whilst Granada lye seven clear of Zaragoza in 18th place.

Athletic Bilbao 1-0 Sevilla
Athletic Bilbao ended a six-game winless streak with a narrow victory over Sevilla at San Mames, leaving the Basques within two points of the top six.

Sevilla played on the break for much of the first half but Jesus Navas and Alvaro Negredo both wasted good chances as the match remained goalless heading into the break. Fernando Llorente netted the games only goal early in the second half when the Spanish striker headed home Markel Susaeta’s precise cross.

Los Rojiblancos responded in the second half as Negredo went close again but despite late pressure Bilbao were able to close out the match securing a vital three points.
