Lazio director Igli Tare has affirmed his belief that the Biancolesti can win Serie A this coming season, and pin-pointed the arrival of new coach Vladimir Petkovic as a key reason for the Rome club's optimism.
The Albanian, who played for the capital club between 2005 and 2008, has also praised the signing of Ederson from Lyon and the potential capture of Burak Yilmaz from Trabzonspor as other indicators to success.
"We [Lazio] will be even more competitive than a year ago," he told La Gazzetta dello Sport. "The history of this club requires us to continually grow.
"Is the Scudetto realistic? [president Claudio] Lotito is not satisfied easily. We don't want to get too far ahead of ourselves though. The last title here [in 1999-00] caused so much [financial] trouble; we want balance."
Tare continued by discussing the incoming transfers this summer: "We will do another two or three purchases [after Ederson]. For Burak Yilmaz, we will do things properly. His arrival should be completed soon."
A player who could be on his way out however, is Mauro Zarate. Assessing his role in the team, he said: "I think he will alter the balance of the side. Petkovic will be looking at his withdrawal soon."
When talking about the new coach, the 38-year-old was confident in his ability to move the team forward: "I asked him: 'How do you feel about coaching Lazio?'. He replied: 'I am not afraid.'"
