The 19-year-old has often been compared to his older counterpart, and has now affirmed suggestions that he has modelled his game after the Juve manPescara wonderkid Marco Verratti has spoken of his admiration for Andrea Pirlo and revealed it would be a great honour to play alongside the Juventus midfielder.
Verratti's scintillating form has caught the eye of Italy coach Cesare Prandelli, who called the 19-year-old up to Italy's Euro 2012 preliminary squad.
"Andrea Pirlo is the best midfielder in Italy, perhaps even the world, and I admit to always watching him on TV in a bid to understand my similar role on the pitch," he said according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
"Playing alongside him next term would be fantastic, but we'll only talk about that at the end of this season."
The teenager went on to thank Pescara coach Zdenek Zeman for helping him make the breakthrough to the national side.
"When Zemen asked me to switch roles, it seemed a natural position for me and I thought that it was a role which best suited my characteristics,” Verratti said.
Verratti's agent has confirmed there are talks ongoing between Juventus and Pescara, but negotiations have reportedly hit a snag over the transfer fee.
