Bernd Stange's Lions set for friendly fixtures against Papua New Guinea and Hong Kong this month

The Singapore FA revealed today that the national team will play two home friendly matches against Papua New Guinea and Hong Kong this September. The matches will both take place at Hougang Stadium, with the Lions taking on Papua New Guinea on the 6 September and  Hong Kong three days later on the 9 September.
National team head coach Bernd Stange welcomed the opportunity for the team to get together as he looks to prepare for the month-long ASEAN Football Federation Suzuki Cup, which takes place from November to December and sees Singapore co-host the tournament with Vietnam.

"These upcoming international friendly matches will serve as a way for us to have more time to play and train together. This can only be good for us, as it allows the players to get used to playing together as a team with the style I am implementing," he told Goal.
The German coach is clearly looking to the future having announced a youthful and relatively inexperienced 25-man squad to play in these fixtures, which includes eight uncapped players and boasts an average age of just 23. Stange stated that he hoped to build on a recent training tour to Austria and a rather chastening friendly where a Singapore Selection side was trounced 5-0 by current Italian champions Juventus. Both the matches will kick off at 730pm with tickets on sale from SG$12.
