The Philippines side, who are the sole invited team left, will face off against the defending champions, while the only all-foreign affair promises to be an intriguing clash
The Protectors easily brushed aside Cambodian outfit NagaCorp FC 5-0 in the preliminary round and were paired with the Sparks on Wednesday afternoon at the draw ceremony at Jalan Besar Stadium. The latter are the only invited team left in the competition, having progressed by virtue of smashing Laotian side SHB Champasak 7-1.
Home, who were placed in Group B of the preliminary round, managed to avoid S.League leaders Brunei DPMM. The Bruneian side, who thrashed Global FC 7-0, will face Albirex Niigata in arguably the highest-profile clash of the draw.
Over in Group A, where it was an all-local affair in the preliminary round, league champions Tampines Rovers will face Tanjong Pagar United, while Balestier Khalsa drew Geylang International. Three out of those four teams will be seeking to lift the Cup again, with only Balestier having never done so in the history of the tournament.
The first of the quarter-finals are expected to commence on June 27.
