The Lions have put together a 21-man squad for the 2015 AFC Asian Cup qualifier at home, with 10 of them having played at the recent SEA Games

A 21-man Singapore squad has been announced by the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) to face Jordan in their upcoming 2015 AFC Asian Cup qualifier on Tuesday.

Captain Shahril Ishak is the most experienced with 110 caps, followed by centre-back Baihakki Khaizan with 104. Other seasoned veterans include Hariss Harun, Safuwan Baharudin, Shahdan Sulaiman and Khairul Amri. There were notable recalls for Qiu Li and Ismail Yunos, with the team also consisting of 10 players who were involved in the recent SEA Games. Club-wise, 13 are from the LionsXII, with five from S.League sides.

Lions coach Bernd Stange is relishing the chance for his team to test themselves against a side he described as one of the best in Asia.

“Competing against teams such as Jordan will provide valuable experience for our younger players, who can only grow and get better from playing against teams of such a level," he said through a FAS statement.

"If we aspire to compete at the highest level, we must play regularly against such quality teams. We must continue to show progressive improvement, game after game and I expect nothing less from my players.

"I hope that fans will come to the stadium to be the twelfth man and support the team.”

Singapore are bottom of Group A and need a win to keep alive their slim hopes of qualification. The team will commence training on Sunday.
