The LionsXII winger appeared to have been fouled inside the box in the closing stages of their 2-2 draw against JDT, but claimed he didn't really know where the contact took placeThe LionsXII capped a memorable night after coming from two goals down to salvage a draw in their third match of the 2014 Malaysia Super League at the Tan Sri Dato' Hj Hassan Yunos Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Luciano Figueroa and Pablo Aimar put the hosts 2-0 up in the first half, but a frantic four minutes in the second period saw the LionsXII claw their way back into the game after goals from Khairul Amri and Hafiz Sujad.
The LionsXII could have snatched the victory in the late stages of the game but they were controversially denied a penalty after Faris Ramli appeared to have been fouled right on the line of the penalty box.
The 21-year-old winger, however, was not certain himself that a spot-kick should have been given as he spoke to Goal Singapore after the game.
“I was inside the box [after I fell], so I didn’t really know where the contact was," Faris stated.
Still, the Goal Singapore Young Player of the Year was satisfied with the outcome of the match, considering they were trailing for the better part of the game.
“The game went very well,” Faris said.
“The best result would have been three points, but a draw is still a good result considering we were 2-0 down.
“We lacked fighting spirit in the first half so he (coach Fandi) asked us to buck up and do well in the second half.
“We showed character in the second half and we made an impact. We pushed a lot of people up and we tried to squeeze for a goal and we got it.”
