Tampines Rovers lift 2014 NagaWorld Cup

The reigning S.League champions concluded their pre-season tour of Cambodia by beating NagaCorp FC 1-0 thanks to Luis Closa's strike to win the trophy
Tampines Rovers ended their pre-season tour in emphatic fashion as they beat NagaCorp FC 1-0 at the Phnom Penh Olympic Stadium on Sunday to lift the 2014 NagaWorld Cup.

New Paraguayan signing Luis Closa proved to be the difference as his wonder goal in the 35th minute was enough to beat the home side.

Head coach Salim Moin made one change to the team that started against Svay Rieng, with Jufri Taha taking Anaz Hadee’s place at right-back.

The telling moment came when Shahdan Sulaiman picked up a loose ball in the final third before spraying it onto the path of Mustafic Fahrudin. The Stags captain picked out Closa and the Paraguayan let fly an unstoppable shot into the top corner from 25 yards out.

The three-time defending S.League champions had earlier beaten Cambodian League champions Svay Rieng on Friday with a similar score line. Prior to the pre-season tour, Tampines lost to Malaysian sides Johor Darul Takzim and Felda United 7-1 and 2-0 respectively.

The Stags are set to face Hong Kong side South China AA for the AFC Champions League play-off round on February 2 next.
