Young Lions headed to Turkey for training camp

Aide Iskandar's men will travel to Antalya for a month-long pre-season trip as part of preparations for the S.League, which includes a game against Slavia Prague
The Courts Young Lions will spend a month in Turkey as part of their pre-season preparations for the 2014 S.League campaign.

New foreign signings Jordan Webb and Sherif El-Masri will also make up the 24-man squad that is bound for Antalya, with FC Metz starlet Adam Swandi and Warriors FC goalkeeper Hassan Sunny also involved, the latter to lend his experience.

The training camp, which runs from January 12 to February 12, will see them play four friendlies against Turkish top-flight team Konyaspor, Azerbaijan Under-21s, Denmark Under-21s and Czech Republic top-tier side Slavia Prague.

Head coach Aide Iskandar is looking forward to the trip as he is keen for his young team to gain valuable experience.

"The entire experience will put the players in good stead for their future; we can only get better by playing against such quality opponents," he said in a statement from the Football Association of Singapore (FAS).

“The experiences obtained from this camp will also aid our players in their preparations not only for the long-term, but also for the upcoming 2014 S.League season.”

Defender Al-Qaasimy Rahman, who will captain the Young Lions for 2014, shared his coach's sentiments.

"We are excited and looking forward to pitting ourselves against such high-level opponents," he stated. "All of us feel that this will be an invaluable learning experience for us all, and we want to thank FAS for providing this opportunity for us to train overseas."

The Young Lions drew 2-2 with Malaysian Premier League side Felda United Thursday night, having played out a 3-1 win over the LionsXII last Wednesday. The team will depart tonight.
