thumbnail Hello,

The new coach of the Malaysian Super League champions saw his team beat PPSM Magelang in the second game of their Indonesia training tour

After losing their first two pre-season friendlies under new coach Fandi Ahmad, the LionsXII finally found success on their third try as they edged PPSM Magelang 2-1 on Tuesday at the Madya Stadium.

The game was the second on their pre-season tour of Indonesia, having lost to 3-0 to Indonesia Premier League (IPL) side Persis Solo last Saturday.

But the LionsXII triumphed this time round against another IPL side in PPSM thanks to second-half goals from Khairul Amri and Sufian Anuar to give Fandi his first win in charge of the Malaysian Super League (MSL) champions.

After a goal-less first half, Amri headed in a cross from Syafiq Zainal to give the LionsXII the lead in the 55th minute, before Sufian converted from close range to extend the advantage five minutes later. Faisol Arif halved the deficit in the 64th minute, but it was to prove nothing more than a consolation goal.

The match was a replacement game, as the LionsXII were originally scheduled to play Persiba Bantul. They will next take on PSS Sleman in their last friendly of the tour on Friday, January 10.

LionsXII XI: Izwan; Faritz, Afiq, Hafiz; Zulfahmi (C); Nazrul, Aqhari, Ang, Quak; Syafiq, Sufian. Bench: Zharfan, Safuwan, Shakir, Ong, Amri.
