thumbnail Hello,

The U23 teams of both nations will face-off in a charity match to raise funds for victims of the recent Typhoon Haiyan disaster

The charity fundraiser for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan reported on by Goal Singapore earlier this week has finally been greenlit by the Football Association of Singapore (FAS).

The Singapore U23 team will take on their Philippines counterparts on Sunday evening December 1, at the Hougang Stadium, with all proceeds from the game given to Red Cross Singapore in their relief efforts following the devastation caused by Typhoon Haiyan.

Tickets for the match have been priced at SGD$20 with VIP tickets on sale for SGD$100. Donation boxes will also be available at the stadium for fans to donate.

Her Excellency Minda Calaguian-Cruz, the Philippines Ambassador to Singapore, will be the Guest-of-Honour for the event.

The Philippines U23, who will not be participating at the upcoming SEA Games will be Singapore's final opponent in their preparations for the competition, and will be flown over by AirAsia Berhad, who are sponsoring the travel expenses of the visiting delegation.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragedy that has struck the Philippines, and the FAS would like to help with the relief efforts in whichever way we can," said FAS President Zainudin Nordin in a media statement.

"Sports is a strong unifying force and we hope that all our fans would come together as One Singapore not only to show our support for the Under-23 Team, but more importantly to show our solidarity with our neighbours in times of distress. Your generous donations will go a long way in helping the victims re-build their lives and I hope to see all of you at the match on Sunday.”

Singapore U23 coach Aide Iskandar also offered his views, adding: “Football is a sport that brings everyone together and it is important for us to lend a helping hand when our close friend is in need. I urge our fans to turn up at Hougang Stadium this Sunday and support the charity drive to raise funds for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines."

"Through the fund-raising initiative, we hope to utilise the power of the sport and do our part to help the victims and their families. Let us send a strong message to our friends in the Philippines that they are not alone and that we stand in solidarity with them.”
