Tampines Rovers forward Aleksandar Duric has declared his joy at being selected as a candidate for Player of the Year in the Goal Singapore Football Awards, which he feels is a good move in local football.
Duric won a third consecutive S.League title with Tampines in the season just ended and also bagged the Golden Boot award, his 15 goals making him joint top-scorer with Woodlands Wellington forward Moon Soon Ho.
Acclaimed for his performances on the pitch despite being 43 years of age, the evergreen striker was unsurprisingly identified as a nominee for the award.
The former Singapore international has expressed his gratitude for the nomination and believes that such an initiative will be beneficial towards local football.
“It is always nice to be recognised for hard work, the goals [I've scored] and helping my team to win a third S.League title!” Duric told Goal Singapore.
“It is really good to have this award from Goal, it shows that we are being followed with our performances from Goal!”
Despite missing out on the S.League Player of the Year award, which eventually went to Home United ace Lee Kwan Woo, Duric was simply satisfied to have been nominated for the award.
“Well I missed [S.League] Player of the Year and looking at the players who are nominees at Goal, they are all big names and good players, so for me just to be nominated is a really nice [form of] recognition for my good season with Tampines!” Duric expressed.
“All players will be best possible competitors for me because all these names are top class players and all of them deserve to be winners.”
