With the S.League season officially at an end, the time has come to recognise and reward the top performers during the past season.
Amongst the awards up for grabs is the prestigious S.League Player of the Year award. The five nominees for the award are Lee Kwan Woo, Jozef Kaplan, Monsef Zerka, Aleksandar Duric and Paul Cunningham.
Out of the five nominees, Goal Singapore readers believe that Duric deserves win the award most.
The 43-year old, who was picked by voters to win the Golden Boot as well, garnered a whopping 45.7% of the votes. The Tampines Rovers striker has won the award three times in his career already (2007, 2008 and 2012), and is clearly the favourite to retain the award
Home United’s Lee Kwan Woo and Tanjong Pagar’s Monsef Zerka share second spot with a distant 17.1% of the votes each. Lee was the man-of-the match in the 4-1 victory over Tanjong Pagar United in the RHB Singapore Cup final and will surely be in the running to win the award after an exceptional season with the Protectors, while Monsef’s 12 goals this season will also put him in contention for the award.
Balestier Khalsa captain Paul Cunningham is in fourth place after garnering 11.4% of the votes after a successful season with the Tigers, finishing fourth in the league and winning the League Cup, while Geylang International’s Jozef Kaplan is in fifth after receiving only 8.6% of the votes.
