The former Singapore international has joined the club for a third stint, with 11 current players getting contract extensions and a further seven being releasedNoh Alam Shah has rejoined Tampines Rovers for a second time after penning a one-year deal, the club confirmed on Friday.
Goal Singapore first broke the news when we spoke to current Stags stalwart Aleksandar Duric a week ago, who mentioned that the former Singapore striker would be the replacement for LionsXII-bound Khairul Amri.
The 33-year-old returned from his year-long stint in Indonesia with Persekap Pasuruan three weeks ago and began training with the Stags during the last two weeks before the current season concluded. He signed the contract last Saturday.
Alam Shah had returned to the club for the first time in mid-2012, although he failed to find the back of the net during that spell.
"He has played alongside some of the best footballers in this region and has won numerous titles with the teams that he represented,” head coach Tay Peng Kee said in a club statement.
“His experience on the pitch will be useful to us. We are competing on four fronts in the 2014 season (S.League, Singapore Cup, League Cup and AFC Cup) and we need quality players in the squad. Alam Shah is a player who has proven that he can succeed at the highest level, and therefore he will be a good addition to the team."
Contract renewals have also been handed out to Jufri Taha, Mustafic Fahrudin, Kunihiro Yamashita, Shahdan Sulaiman, Duric, Imran Sahib, Anaz Hadee, Shaiful Esah, Firdaus Kasman, Jamil Ali and Ridhuan Barudin. Midfielder Ismadi Mukhtar will also remain with Tampines as he is on a two-year deal.
Apart from Amri's departure, six other players will also be released upon the expiry of their current contracts, namely Andre Martins, Vitor Ladeiras, Diogo Caramelo, Seiji Kaneko, Ahmed Fahmie and Ruzaini Zainal.
"We are retaining the core group of players for the new season in view of further reinforcing the squad
with more quality signings," Tay added.
"We have also begun our search for a marquee player who can fit into our plans for the new season. We have also drafted a list of potential signings who we think will be assets to the team for the coming year."
