FAS paid tribute to all those who were involved in the eventful 2013 campaign that saw the LionsXII win the Malaysia Super League and reach the quarter-finals of the Malaysia CupIt was an afternoon of appreciation and gratitude at the Amara Hotel on Sunday afternoon as the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) paid tribute to all who were involved in the success of the LionsXII campaign this past season in an appreciation luncheon.
Attended by FAS Advisor, Associate Professor Ho Peng Kee, outgoing and present council FAS members as well as FAS staff, sponsors, fans and the media, the event commemorated the efforts of the eventful 2013 campaign that saw the LionsXII win the Malaysia Super League and reach the quarter-finals of the Malaysia Cup.
FAS president Zainudin Nordin, who delivered the welcome address during the luncheon, expressed his appreciation to the team and coach V. Sundramoorthy for their invaluable contributions to Singapore football.
“I would like to express my appreciation to the LionsXII for not only taking Singapore football to greater heights with their commitment to excellence, but also for capturing the imaginations of all Singaporeans through their sheer dedication, unending spirit and team work,” he said.
“I would like to commend the backroom staff and support staff from various departments in FAS for their efforts in ensuring that the team were always able to perform to their utmost best even in the most challenging circumstances.
“I would also especially like to pay tribute to outgoing LionsXII coach V. Sundramoorthy for his unwavering dedication and hard work that transformed a young, inexperienced team into a giant-killing team and astounded one and all.”
LionsXII captain Shahril Ishak, who was seated with his teammates, was visibly moved by the event.
“On behalf of my team, I would like to thank all those who have supported us throughout the season, even when we were down,” Shahril said.
“The support from the team behind the team, which includes the backroom staff, our sponsors, our fans, the media and especially FAS kept us going strong and we could not have achieved what we have without it.”
