Dejan Gluscevic's charges played out a 1-1 draw in Indonesia after having to come from behind to an early goal

Singapore began their AFF U19 Championship on a disappointing note as they were held 1-1 by Timor Leste in the second Group A match on Monday night at the Gelora Delta Sidoarjo Stadium.

Timor Leste took the early lead through Marcos Gusmao who pounced on a rebound following Adelino's blocked effort.

The lower-ranked team held the upperhand for most of the start of game as they pressured and kept Singapore at bay who managed to find themselves back in the game close to the half-hour mark.

Muhaimin Suhaimi was fouled inside the penalty box by Candido Oliveira and Muhammad Hazim stepped up to convert the resulting penalty kick and tie the game.

Both teams failed to capitalise on their chances in the second-half and ended the game sharing the spoils.

In an earlier fixture, Laos defeated Philippines 3-1 to take control of Group A. Both Timor Leste and Singapore are now tied for second in the five-team group. Singapore next take on Philippines on September 11 while Laos play Cambodia.
