The inaugural event, termed the "Race against Racism", is organised by NGO OnePeople Singapore and will see S.League officials and players join in a 2.7km Fun Walk

The local football fraternity has announced its support for the inaugural Orange Ribbon Run / Walk 2013 - “Race against Racism”, which will be held on July 6 to celebrate racial and religious harmony.

The Singapore football community, which includes S.League club chairmen and players, will participate in the 2.7km Fun Walk category of the event along the scenic routes of Marina Bay Sands and Gardens by the Bay.

Organised by OnePeople Singapore, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), the event aims to ingrain values of respect, understanding and trust in the community.

OnePeople Singapore chairman Zainudin Nordin, who is also the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) president, expressed gratitude for the support shown by the S.League players and officials.

“ appreciates that the sports community, including the footballing family, are united in pledging their full support for the 'Race against Racism'," he said.

“Through the event, we hope to reinforce the values of inclusivity and humanity to the Singaporean community and also send an unequivocal message against racism and discrimination.”

S.League CEO Lim Chin shared Zainudin’s sentiment and urged the fans to be part of this event alongside their idols from the different clubs.

“There is no place for racism in our society; S.League is fully united behind this special cause and is committed to tackling all forms of discrimination both on and off the field," he asserted.

“Events like the ‘Race against Racism’ play an important role in educating Singaporeans and raising awareness about the issue.

“We urge the entire S.League community from the players to the fans to participate in the walk this Saturday and show that we respect everyone at all times, regardless of nationalities or ethnic backgrounds.”

S.League fans are also encouraged to be decked out in football and anti-racism themed attire and the 10 best-dressed fans will each receive a pair of tickets to watch the S.League Selection team take on Selangor in the annual Sultan of Selangor’s Cup in September with two-way transport provided.

These 10 fans will each receive an invite letter at the end of the event to the ticket distribution ceremony at Jalan Besar Stadium on Friday, August 30 where they will receive the tickets personally from Datuk Karim, Chairman of Sultan of Selangor’s Cup Organising Committee.

Fans are encouraged to join the S.League players and officials at the gathering/meeting point (located outside Carnivore Brazilian Churrascaria Restaurant - Bay Level, L1-80) by 5.15pm on Saturday, July 6. The 2.7km Fun Walk will commence at 5.30pm.
