thumbnail Hello,

The dates for the two-legged quarter-finals of the knockout tournament have been released, with Global FC and Loyola Meralco Sparks the only invited sides left in the running

The 2013 RHB Singapore Cup will resume in slightly over a month’s time as the competition heads into the quarter-finals. The remaining eight teams will have to vie against each other in two-legged ties, beginning from July 22.

Loyola Meralco Sparks FC and Global FC are the only remaining foreign teams that are still in the running for the coveted cup. The teams from the Philippines secured comfortable wins during the preliminary round to book their berths in the quarters, and will seek to progress further.

Global, the reigning champions of Philippines’ United Football League, easily knocked out defending champions Warriors FC in their first match with a cushy 2-0 win. The Red Machine will face a tougher challenge against Brunei DPMM next on July 24 at the Jalan Besar Stadium.

Likewise, Loyola Sparks demolished Harimau Muda 3-0 in the preliminary round and will be determined to go all the way this time after crashing out of last year’s semi-finals in 2-0 and 3-0 defeats to Tampines Rovers. This time, the Filipino side will come up against high-flying Tanjong Pagar United at Queenstown Stadium on July 25.
