thumbnail Hello,

The Lions have instead been scheduled to play two away ties against Laos and Myanmar

Singapore will play Myanmar and Laos in international friendlies in June, following the cancellation of the annual Causeway Challenge against Malaysia.

The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) scheduled the games after the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) informed them on Wednesday that their first and second national teams would be unavailable on the two dates that were earlier agreed upon by both sides.

The Lions will have to travel to Yangon, Myanmar on June 4 and Vientiane, Laos on June 7, and team manager Azrulnizam Shah stated that a squad would be announced by Monday.

“Like our fans and stakeholders, we were looking forward to the Causeway Challenge which had been agreed upon earlier and hence we are disappointed that it has now been cancelled,” he said.

“To allow our players to gain necessary international match exposure, we have since arranged two away international friendly matches for the Singapore national football team – against Myanmar and Laos - during this period.

“We are looking forward to these matches and we will announce the squad list by Monday.”

The two matches will mark the debut of new Singapore Head Coach Bernd Stange, who was appointed to the role last week.
